We as the movie-going public are becoming spoiled and selfish.
People who hate remakes because they're remakes are fucking stupid. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. To the people who say they are loyal fans of the original flick and go "oh we don't want a remake because it'll ruin our oh so precious original!" Fuck you. What is it? Do you think that if a remake opens in theaters the first movie is gonna fizzle out of existence or something? It's stupid.
I'll take recent examples of such phenomenon in the new Friday the 13th and Halloween films because I'm such a slasher junkie.
Friday the 13th has been quite the series, full of ups and downs but nonetheless it has garnered an enormous fan base and Jason Voorhees, one of my personal heroes, has become a cultural icon over the years. Jason has sure been around, he had been re-designed eleven times over before the decision to reboot the franchise had been made and his wrath has spread from Crystal Lake to New York City to Outer Space.
Taking those last two words into consideration you have to ponder "could the series really go farther downhill then that?" Well people seem to think so because I can't read about the new flick without coming across some so-called fan saying they never should have made the movie.
Call me crazy but as a young and new fan of the franchise I felt fucking privileged that a Friday the 13th film would be hitting a theater near me and I was shocked by how few people seemed to share that feeling.
Then there's poor old Michael Myers who also finished terribly with a half-baked encounter with Busta Rhymes and after all that Cult of Thorn crap too. The guy just couldn't get a break until out of the darkness cameth the great Rob Zombie who declared to Michael "I shall make you new again."
First of all, the original Halloween was a fantastic movie. It's one of my favourite motion pictures of all time. That being said, I think it's highly overrated. The acting was horrible, beyond horrible in some cases, death scenes were so over the top and some of the actresses, if they can be called that, never quite knew when the camera was off and they could blink again. Some shots also stretched far longer then they deserved. Also what kind of a hardware store sells rope, knives and halloween masks? Rapists 'r' Us?
In short, it wasn't perfect but all those flaws seem easily forgotten or ignored when in competition with a film labeled 'remake' and that's fucking ridiculous.
Love 'em or hate 'em, they're here to stay but people who hate them need to drop the whole dramatic route with their claims that the original will be defiled and the people who love 'em need to shut the fuck up because they annoy me just as much.
Anyway, if you're a true Halloween fan, you'll be sitting your ass right next to mine on August 28th.
Rob Zombie commands it.

A new direction I would like to see? If you want to differentiate between Freddy Classic and New Freddy, Make him hate-able and Not a comedian. He's a Child Killer. I sure as hell don't want to Relate to, Understand or have Sympathy for the guy, much less root for him.
